Volume too high

In the past I used the following procedure to reduce to default volume of the beep and voice:

start alsamixer, select playback and use + and - to adapt the volume, then
I gave the following command for my respeaker 2:
sudo alsactl -f /etc/voicecard/wm8960_asound.state store

Is this still the procedure to follow or is there an option in the settings of Rhasspy 2.5.10 to achieve the same result nowadays?
