Bothers me since the beginning: Why “Rhasspy”? What does it mean? Where does the word come from?

Pretty much this. The “hass” part is an abbreviation for Home Assistant. The full name is just a play on the word “raspy”, as described by @FredTheFrog.
In case you didn’t know too, the logo is Rhasspy the Raven who sits atop a branch that forms an “R”
